Forms of television advertising

  • There are seven different formats of advent. They are  Realist narrative ,Anti-realist narrative, Animation, Documentary ,Talking heads, Stand alone and Series 

    The first form of advertising is Realest narrative. An example of a realest narrative is the 'fairy liquid advertisement.


    The advert  is showing a parent washing up and a child asking about the washing up liquid. It is a good example of a realest advert because they make the setting seem like it is a normal home to show that it works for normal people and it make people think that it works for that woman in her home they think it will work for them too. A realest advert has positives and negatives. A positive is that the advert is like real life so it convinces people that the product works. This makes people want to buy it because it is showing that it is a product for anyone A negative is that it is a plain advert so it might not interest the people into buying the product because it is just showing what would really would happen in life.

    The second form of advertisement is Anti-realest narrative. An example of Anti-realest narrative is the  skittles advert.





    The advert is of a man who when he touches anything they turn to skittles. It is a good advert because it is a memorable  one because of its comedy element. This would not happen in real life so it makes humorous. An anti realist advert has positive and negatives. A positive is that it is so out of the ordinary , it is memorable  This means the advert would be stuck in there head so they will want to try it. A negative is that audiences might not take the advert seriously because it is too humorous to be taken seriously , so people wont remember  the product or want to buy the product .  
     



    The third form of advertisement is animation. An example of animation advert is the twinings advert.




    The advert is of a women who goes across the ocean in a boat trying to get to her twin. It is a good advert because the animation is really good. Also you get involved with the story of the advert and get attached to the character. It makes you want to know why she is going across the sea. There are positive and negatives to an animation advert. A positive to it is that the animation makes you want to watch it. When animation is used you can do a lot more in the advert compared to a real life advert. This makes the advert more interesting. AS negative to animation adverts is that animation dose not appeal to everyone. Animation appeals to more younger audiences so not everyone will pay attention what the product that is being sold. Also it is an animation so it dose not apply to real life,  so people might not trust it as much.


    The forth type of advertisement is documentary. An example of a documentary advert is 


    The advert is about a dentist telling the audience about enamel wear. It is a good advert because it give information about what is happening to you teeth , so people are more informed. Also it uses a dentist so people will trust it more. Documentary adverts have positives and negatives. A positive to documentary adverts are that they tell the audience a lot of information . This make people understand why they need a product , so it convinces they to buy it. Also they always use professionals from the fields the product is being sold from. This makes the product more trust worthy. This means more people would believe it works so would want to buy it.


    The fifth type of advertisement is talking heads. An example of a talking head advertisement is Lea Michele's Loreal advert 



    The advert is of actress Lea Michele telling us about the new Loreal product, Saying what it is and what it does. It is a good advert because it has a celebrity which means more people will watch it . Also it tells us everything we need to know about the product. Talking head adverts have positives and negatives. A positive for talking head adverts is that they tell you everything you need to know about the product. This means people decide if the product is right for them. Also talking head adverts are not too serious and are not too humorous. This means that it can be taken seriously but is not boring either. A negative too talking head adverts is that not much happens in the advert. This means it is less memorable. 

      The sixth type of advertising is stand alone. An example of a stand alone advert is the Katy perry perfume advert.





    The  advert is about the singer Katy Perry being a queen, then gets tied of the normal parts of a queen, so she runs and changes her look, This is a good advert because of the imagery on screen is 
    humorous and memorable. Also the story is interesting. There are positives and negatives to stand lone adverts. A positive to a stand alone advert is that the story is only done once so people wont get bored of it. Also they do not have to have a storyline that will have to carry on. A negative to stand alone adverts are that people might not rember the advert that much because there is only one of them. 


    The final form of advertising is the series advert .An example of a series advert is the bt ads about the family 






    The advert is about a man 'Adam' meeting a women and he starts dating her. This series if adverts are good because you get attached to family and want to see what happens next for them. Later on in the series the audience could vote if they think the women was pregnant or not .Series adverts have positives and negatives. A positives to series adverts is that you get attached to the characters  in the advert and what to see what happens next. Also you like the adverts and waits  for the next ones to come one. A negative to series adverts is  that they might become repetitive and monotonous so people might get bored of seeing them.
